Lunacy

Most people have always heard that folks are “crazier” during the full moon. Crimes, accidents, and births are always up on nights with full moons.

A scientific explanation is offered: The moon affects tides, and since the human body is mostly water, then it follows that the full moon affects the body. It is said that scientific studies have been done which prove this.

It’s also said that statistics prove that crimes, accidents, and births are all up during full moons. Statistics are also said to prove that people are “crazier” and mounds of anecdotal evidence are always presented.

But is it true? Does science bear it out? Do statistics?

The true facts of the McDonalds coffee burn case

You may remember the case. Stella Liebeck spilled hot coffee on herself, sued McDonalds, and won. The way this case gets talked about, people use it as an example of how the court system doesn’t work and rewards people for frivolous lawsuits. In actuality, the system worked very well, but most people haven’t heard all the facts. McDonalds’ deserved to lose this case. Read it and decide for yourself:

The Pet Place

Lauren and I (and Orson) had the pleasure of being invited to participate in The Pet Place 2006 telethon last night at KDOC television. We had a wonderful time, even though our appearance on the show was less than stellar. (Remind me to tell you about the bead of sweat slowly trickling down my back while I was trying to talk with a dry throat.)

A big thank you to Gary Lycan of the OC Register for inviting us. Big thank yous also to Kaci Christian, Lara Scott, the legendary Shotgun Tom Kelly, Daisy Torme and everyone at KDOC and The Pet Place Show.

Cecil the Cat would have come with us, but he didn’t feel like driving.

By the way, you can still make a donation to help rescue animals and place them in loving homes by clicking here.

Miss playing those old LPs?

You can now use laser technology to play those old albums and make them sound better than you remember and almost as good as CDs. Only problem? It carries a $15,000 price tag.
